New England Match Longest Victory Run Since Brady Era with Triumph Over Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has recorded five scores in the present year
The New England Patriots tied their top unbeaten stretch from the Brady era as they defeated AFC East rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout Henderson led the way with three scores as the Patriots notched an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since iconic QB Brady's last year with the franchise in 2019
QB Maye accumulated 281 passing yards and a score, completing 25 of 34 passes
Victory extends the Patriots advantage at the summit of the division as they improved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets at the foot after falling to two victories and eight defeats
The opposing team had gone in front at their home field with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard touchdown to cap the New York's opening drive
But the home team answered in the second quarter as Henderson ran in two short rushing scores before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the rear of the end zone halfway into the third quarter to extend the lead to 21 to 7
"That was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been great for him to keep getting these reps," Maye said of the rookie. "He wants to be outstanding."
Justin Fields threw to Metchie late in the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Borregales booted a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots closed out the triumph
