Super Mario Galaxy Film Trailer Debuts, Introducing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices

Nintendo and Illumination unveiled the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. It was showcased in a special Nintendo Direct that highlighted the forthcoming animated feature.

The follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will send Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. There, he will encounter a new princess and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.

A Space-Faring Quest Drawing from Iconic Releases

In the vein of the Wii console classics that act as its source material, Mario will leave behind the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. Throughout his extensive trek, he will reunite with some recognizable characters, such as the Luma, a popular character from the first movie.

However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who reportedly commands metallic abilities. Notably, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also features references to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Celebrity Voice Actors Come Back and Grow

The movie will feature once again of the initial voice actors, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.

A Big Year for Mario

The new Mario movie is set to release around the time of the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Beyond the film, 2026 promises to be a significant year for Mario and his allies.

Nintendo confirmed three new games officially announced for 2026, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Premiere Date Announced

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
